I know that it’s been a while I’ve posted . I’ve started back school but trying it through the Pathway’s through BYU- I. I love being able to learn and study the scriptures.
While reading 1 Nephi 1-5 – genealogy stood out to me this time. Lehi asked his sons to go Brass plates from Laban, which contained their history. Nephi understood how important this was to his family. He also showed his obedience by going with his brother Lamen and Lemuel.
(1 Nephi 3: 3-5 )For behold, Laban hath the record of the Jews and also a genealogy of my forefathers, and they are engraven upon plates of brass.
4 Wherefore, the Lord hath commanded me that thou and thy brothers should go unto the house of Laban, and seek the records, and bring them down hither into the wilderness.
5 And now, behold thy brothers murmur, saying it is a hard thing which I have required of them; but behold I have not required it of them, but it is a commandment of the Lord.
This stood out to me because this summer my family and I did some family on my dad’s side of the family. My sister’s and I , all made the trek to the Fresno temple. We were all there to do the work for my Grandma Kirkie . We were all able to do something for her in the temple. We also did some other family names too. There was a great spirit throughout the all the sessions, and I could feel the family members’ at the temple.
I know that Genealogy is important principle , but I know that this isn’t my season to do this now. But I know that every time I attend the temple, I am helping someone. I have noticed that genealogy has become much more easier to do. I love that researching has become much more easier. I remember when it was much harder to find information. My Grandparents have done so much work , but I don’t know what has been done.
Genealogy also leads to other family events. This year I’m planning the next family reunion. Where all the family will come together , and we can discuss the past , and see the future with all the kids. My Grandparents aren’t doing so good, but this is tradition that we have been doing for the past 12 years. So much has happened during those 12 year and we have been all over California .
What can I do continue on with my Genealogy ?? I can talk to family members and see what work has been done. I can also start looking at the family records and seeing who hasn’t been done. I can also join one of these sites like : Genealogy or I can use FamilySearch . Family history has changed and so much of it is online. I do want to learn where I came from , and my history even more now.
